FAQs
How long have you been going?
We have been helping tourism organisations with their digital marketing since 2001.
Where is your office?
The postal address of our office is:
Dot Tourism,
3 Queens Court,
20 Pevensey Road,
St Leonards on Sea,
East Sussex
TN38 0LF
We have a small HQ office from where we run our business, but our staff work remotely at a range of locations across the UK and beyond. We realise that, in the digital industry, highly-skilled workers base themselves according to their own convenience. A large central office that can only utilise a limited local workforce does not meet our needs – instead we have trusted relationships with a widely dispersed range of talented and versatile developers who we know can deliver.
What are the benefits of your working approach?
For our clients this means:
- Lower overheads – we can spend more time concentrating on delivering for our clients rather than paying for rent, council tax and those other bills;
- Experienced long distance workers – we can also help you regardless of your geographical location. Take a look at our client list to see some of the international clients that we work with;
- Continuity – all our team are happy working with their own resources immediately available, and we have shared good relationships together over a number of years;
- Responsive – we are not so orientated around strict office hours and tend to be more responsive and flexible than clients expect.
Aren’t there communication and management problems with this approach?
We have strived to make sure our internal communication is better than the traditional office. We use a number of tools to help us with both communicating between our team and with our clients.
- Skype - we use this for telephone calls, instant messaging, file sharing and conference calls;
- Basecamp – at the centre of our internal and client communication this is the market leading software that allows us to collaborate on projects. Over 1 million people use the tool worldwide. Visit the ;
- Subversion - ensures that multiple developers can work on a single project, at the same time, without ever being in danger of overwriting each others work. It also acts as a change control system that allows us to access any previous code we have produced. .
Do you just work for clients in the UK? Nope - we work with clients across the globe and not limited to small projects. We are working with a New York based travel marketing firm to develop an online training product for their German client. With internet telephony, broadband and our collaboration tools our clients can benefit from working with us wherever they happen to be located! We’re using video conferencing more and more, bringing our clients and us even closer together.
We’re not sure about working with a company who is not in London/near us?
The majority of our clients are not within an hour’s physical distance from us. This has not stopped our clients from working with us for many years. Thankfully we don’t have large office associated with London and can spend more of our time working on your projects and not worrying about paying the rent each month!
How long will it take to develop our website?
Difficult one to answer and no straight, single answer we can give. It depends on the scale and complexity of the site and the speed at which you can produce the site content and other deliverables.
How much will it cost to build me a site?
How much does it cost to buy a home? This depends on the number of rooms, the size, the location and a whole bunch of other reasons. The difference between one house and another is a bit like comparing websites, therefore it is impossible to give a ball park figure.
We can give you a full costing for a website if you can complete our project planner document. This will give us a rundown of what your requirements are and we can follow it up with our proposal with cost s and timescales.
What is a project specification document?
This outlines the agreed work between Dot Tourism and yourself as the client. The project specification covers the nitty gritty of the project details making sure everyone is reading off the same sheet. It covers the following:
- Project Objectives
- Site Map
- Functional specification (also known as the ‘user experience’ document it is not about why the content works or why it is there, but what it actually does.
- Technical specification
- Timetable
- Costings
- Payment schedule
Although the aim of project specification document is to fully layout what work will be done there are instances where the project requirements do change and for this reason the document is revised and updated during the lifecycle of a project. |
